News releaseSchrader Electronics Ltd. secures RTPMS order from India’s Mahindra & Mahindra8 October 2007 Antrim based Schrader Electronics, part of the engineering group, Tomkins plc, has announced a major new order for its tyre pressure monitoring systems (RTPMS) from one of India’s largest vehicle manufacturers, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Mahindra & Mahindra’s Automotive Sector is in the business of manufacturing and marketing utility vehicles and light commercial vehicles, including three-wheelers. It is the market leader in utility vehicles in India since inception, and currently accounts for about half of India’s market for utility vehicles. The Group exports its products to several countries in Europe, Africa, South America, South Asia and the Middle East. The order includes the supply of Schrader’s new snap-in valve sensor to vehicles exported to the North American market, starting in January 2009 through 2011, inclusive. With this order, Schrader Electronics, which employs over 800 people in Antrim and Carrickfergus, has confirmed its position as market leader in the production of tyre pressure monitoring systems. Managing Director, Stephen McClelland, commented: “We are very proud of the fact that our first order in the Indian market is from Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. We already supply an impressive list of car companies and to supply our products to one of the leading Indian domestic vehicle manufacturers is great news for our company. Schrader Electronics with its strategy of innovation, world class manufacturing and customer service, has beaten intense competition to secure this award.” Schrader has developed a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor technology that integrates pressure sensing electronics with a rubber “snap-in” tyre valve. The patented technology provides significant benefits to car manufacturers due to its ease and speed of assembly to wheel rims. Schrader Electronics is the market and technology leader in TPMS. The system allows drivers to monitor their vehicle’s tyre pressures by using electronic sensors to transmit pressure and temperature data from each wheel to displays on the instrument panel. Under the TREAD Act, such systems will be compulsory on all cars sold in the USA (around 16 million units a year), with first compliance requirements from 2006 model year. They are also being made available by car producers across the world as an important additional safety feature. Schrader is part of the Industrial and Automotive division of Tomkins plc, a global engineering group listed on both the London and New York stock exchange, with revenue of £3.1bn in 2006. Tomkins plc has over 34,000 employees worldwide and enjoys strong market positions and technical leadership and owns some of the best-known brands in their respective markets.
